The third issue of Handkerchief is on Spontaneity and analyzed various forms of art - such as theatre, writing, .. - as an emancipation instrument to communicate and share the own sexual identity.
Handkerchief aims to be a tool to raise awareness and promote a dialogue on a subject which is still a sensitive issue in our society as is homophobia and gender orientation. Each issue is focused on a specific topic and employs color according to the “Handkerchief Code”, a communication system used among the homosexual community during the Sixties to indicate different sexual attitudes and preferences. In this way the content of each issue has a visual correspondence through its color.
The articles are written and designed by the editors, the photographs are asked to professionals who have faced the same subject using photography while illustrations and the printing are carried out by volunteers who offer to draw and print the issues. The publication is designed to be freely distributed and read both in a traditional way and as wall magazine, posted in public or private spaces.
