Handkerchief is a magazine which aims to raise awareness and promote a dialogue on homophobia and gender orientation. Each issue is focused on a specific topic, colors are chosen according to the “Handkerchief Code”, a communication system used among the homosexual community during the Sixties. The publication is designed to be freely distributed and read both in a traditional as well as a wall magazine, posted in public or private spaces.
The first issue on Absence explains the forgotten story of the Arrusi– Italian homosexuals restricted on the Tremiti islands during Fascism.
The second issue on Excess shows the “Museo Travesti del Peru”, a nomadic museum on Peruvian transexual people by the artist, philosopher and drag queen Giuseppe Campuzano.
The third issue on Spontaneity analyzes various forms of art as an emancipation tool.
